Character Information
Name: Xue Yang
Canon: The Untamed
Canon Point: Just before death
Age: 27
History:
Xue Yang grew up on the streets, without parents or money. Because it was something he could never have, he yearned for sweet things like candy.

When he was seven, he encountered Chang Cian, the leader of Yueyang Chang Sect. Chang Cian promised Xue Yang a plate of pastries if he delivered a letter for him and being innocent and hungry the young Xue Yang was happy to take on the task.

Unfortunately, the letter was a taunt to a man with whom Chang Cian had a conflict. This resulted in Xue Yang being beaten and dragged back to the area he had received his task. Of course, Chang Cian was already gone which meant Xue Yang never got his reward, and it instead only received more punishment. When he was thrown out of the restaurant, he encountered Chang Cian again. He clung to him, begging for the pastries that he was owed, but instead was only met with more violence and being kicked.

Distressed, Xue Yang ran after Chang Cian's ox cart, even jumping in front of it to force him to stop. Chang Cian took the driver's whip and struck Xue Yang before running the wheel of the ox cart over the child's hand, crushing his bones and reducing his little finger to battered flesh. As an adult he is forced to wear a glove to hide the now missing finger.

He grew up as a delinquent that was often found causing trouble. He was taken in as a guest Disciple of the Wen Sect as a teenager and started to learn the ways of Demonic Cultivation.

Xue Yang stole a piece of the Yin Metal and chose to test it on Yueyang Chang Sect in revenge for Chang Cian's cruelty as a child, even though Chang Cian was no longer living. The only survivors of Yueyang Chang Sect were those who had been away night-hunting, including their leader Chang Ping, the son of Chang Cian.

Xiao Xingchen chased Xue Yang over three provinces before apprehending him after the massacre of Yueyang Chang Sect. Xue Yang had stayed within the walls of the Yueyang Chang Sect's home waiting for those whom he knew would come. It was there that he encountered not only Wei Wuxian's group but also Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan. He was captured and taken to the Unclean Realm under the control of their clan leader, Nie Mingjue, where he was placed in a dungeon waiting punishment. But during an attack by the Wen Clan he was freed by Jin Guangyao.

Jin Guangyao was determined to protect Xue Yang due to his useful skills in demonic cultivation.
The powerful Lanling Jin Sect began to pressure Chang Ping to recant his words against Xue Yang. Fearing for the survival of the weakened Yueyang Chang Sect, Chang Ping eventually agreed to announce that the massacre had nothing to do with Xue Yang.

Xue Yang was freed, and he immediately set out to gain revenge on Xiao Xingchen by targeting his close friend Song Lan. Xue Yang blinded Song Lan and massacred the temple he was raised in, Baixue Temple. As a result, Xiao Xingchen gave up his own eyes to restore Song Lan's sight.

Xue Yang was near death on the side of a road after escaping from a death sentance when A-Qing and a blind Xiao Xingchen discovered him. Xiao Xingchen did not realize who the man he rescued was, and upon waking, Xue Yang disguised his voice to avoid being recognized. He allowed the cultivator to care for him until the day he was almost healed and he asked to go with Xiao Xingchen on his night hunt. It was there that he continued with his plan for revenge on the cultivator. He discovered that Xiao Xingchen's sword Shuanghua could not distinguish between fierce corpses and living people poisoned with Corpse Powder if their tongues were cut out. He thus tricked Xiao Xingchen into slaughtering innocent villagers.

Over time, however, Xue Yang transitioned into a more peaceful life. Though he and A-Qing were initially at odds, they reached a truce after Xue Yang would accompany them buying vegetables. He was an intimidating force at the market, often getting their food for free or a deep discount whereas the other two were often taken advantage of because of their blindness. Xiao Xingchen even bought candy for both Xue Yang and A-Qing. This little piece of kindness perhaps started to temper some of that revenge that had fueled him over the years.

Their peace shattered when Song Lan arrived and recognized Xue Yang. Worried his identity would be revealed to Xiao Xingchen, he engaged Xue Yang in a sword fight. While Song Lan was a superior swordsman, Xue Yang gained advantage by informing Song Lan that he had tricked Xiao Xingchen into committing murder and reminding him that he's the one who drove Xiao Xingchen away. He seized the opportunity to cut out Song Lan's tongue and douse him with corpse poisoning powder. Xiao Xingchen then arrived on the scene, led by Shuanghua. He again mistook Song Lan for a fierce corpse, and unknowingly killed his best friend until he felt the familiar blade of his friends blade and realized what had just happened. At this point there was no going back for Xue Yang.

Xue Yang declared that it was fun to trick Xiao Xingchen. Xue Yang told him exactly how he had been tricked into killing civilians. Xue Yang then summoned Song Lan as a conscious fierce corpse to protect him. Unable to cope with what he had been gold and what he had done Xiao Xingchen committed suicide in despair.

Xue Yang was shocked by Xiao Xingchen's suicide and attempted to raise him as a fierce corpse. He said it was better this way because they were easier to control when they were dead. However, his efforts were in vain, as Xiao Xingchen's soul had shattered. Distraught and angered, Xue Yang threw a fit saying he would kill the rest of the villagers and A-Qing if he didn't return but it was not to be. Once he realized this, Xue Yang collected the remains of Xiao Xingchen's soul in a Spirit-Trapping Bag in the hopes that someone could repair it. He also kept Xiao Xingchen's body well-preserved and clean for years.

Xue Yang then sought A-Qing to silence her. He cut out her tongue and blinded her. Xue Yang was able to recreate the missing half of the Stygian Tiger Seal that Wei Wuxian had destroyed before his death and used it to control strong corpses like Wen Ning and Song Lan.

Xue Yang disguised himself as Xiao Xingchen and forced Song Lan to fight for him. when Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji and the disciples showed up in Yi City, he created lots of traps in the hopes of geting Wei Wuxian to help him bring back Xiao Xingchen. Wei Wuxian refused, upon which Xue Yang declared his intent to kidnap Wei Wuxian if necessary.

Lan Wangji returned to engage Xue Yang in a fight, during which Wei Wuxian used Empathy to learn what A-Qing knew. Lan Wangji severed Xue Yang's arm, but right before Xue Yang bled to death, Su She used a Transportation Talisman to steal the Stygian Tiger before Song Lan came to finish killing Xue Yang.

Personality:
Xue Yang was known for his radiant smile, inhumane means, and merciless personality. Xue Yang viewed the cultivators around him with contempt and showed no fear in the presence of even the strongest of them. He spends his days stewing in his need for revenge on anyone he felt wronged him during his life. But his sense of justice goes beyond just an "eye for an eye". He lost a finger as a youth and in retaliation for that he destroyed an entire clan. He saw taking their lives as being barely enough payment for his little finger.

Xue Yang seemed particularly sensitive to the notion that people saw him an inferior, often reacting with killing intent. One of the reasons he hated Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan so much was because he felt that they looked down on him and he wanted to knock them down because of it.

People often remarked that he was handsome and would be charming if it weren't for the delinquent style that he chose to live his life. When he smiled, it was often large and wide, showing even his canine teeth. He was also very clever, figuring out how to repair the Stygian Tiger Seal and learning how to use it to control walking corpses.

Xue Yang was extremely guarded, as he denied caring about anyone even during his final fight, despite significant evidence that he did grow to care about Xiao Xingchen. Although he would never admit it, it was clear that those peaceful days at Yi City were enough to change the shape of his life just a little. The thoughts of revenge had started to temper and he was willing to do more of the shopping on his own. Even he was charmed by the first kindness that had been shown to him in his lifetime.

Abilities & Skills:
He has trained in the dark arts and the demonic cultivation methods. This includes controlling walking corpses and other dead or possessed creatures. He is extremely intelligent having the ability to figure out how to manipulate people into believing whatever he wants. He also is skilled at deception and was able to change his appearance in order to make Wei Wuxian and the disciples into thinking he was Xiao Xingchen. He also was able to fool Xiao Xingchen into believing he was an innocent cultivator caught up in something that got him injured. Able to hide who he was for over three years before being discovered by Song Lan. Being extremely clever allows him to adapt quickly to situations and even when caught he knows that it will only be temporary given his skills.
